HONG KONG NEVER SURRENDER

Miguel Candela

Hong Kong’s core has been shaken as hundreds of thousands of people have demonstrated against the extradition bill in the past weeks. As its name implies, the extradition law would allow the extradition of suspects to mainland China. Many Hong Kongers fear the new law will be used by authorities to target political enemies and will mean the end of the “one country, two systems”. Even though the chief executive, Carrie Lam, has suspended and declared the extradition law as “dead”, the timetable is uncertain. Frustration remains among protesters leaving the city with constant protests, stormed into the Legislative Council, and multiple clashes with the police.
